Description: Our client in Indianapolis, IN is seeking a mid to senior level government accounting professional. The candidate will provide duties as a liaison for a Defense Agency client in Indianapolis. The candidate will support audited financial statement preparation and audit support functions. The successful candidate should have experience working with Department of Defense (DoD) financial statement notes and an ability to maintain accounting records and balanced in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The candidate should be familiar with DoD financial accounting systems, including the Standard Army Financial System and other systems related to entitlement and disbursing. The candidate will work with a team to prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial status reports and external reporting documentation filed with the DFAS and other Department of Defense (DoD) and civilian organizations. The candidate will provide liaison functions to DFAS and coordinate service provider requirements, including correction and improvement in processing of accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, intra-governmental eliminations, and dat
a management issues, including interface between the Defense Agency Accounting System and DFAS-Columbus Mechanization of Contract Administrative Support (MOCAS) entitlement system.
The position requires a BA/BS in Accounting. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of current financial management and accounting requirements and reform initiatives, such as FASAB accounting statements/concepts, OMB circulars and bulletins, Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) guidance, the Financial Management Regulation, and other Federal/DoD requirements. The candidate will provide representation on working groups, integrated process teams, and other forums which address DoD financial issues. Knowledge of Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Bulletin 06-03 and Circular A-136, as well as DoD standards and instructions is a plus. The candidate will assist the Defense Agency client in discovery and correction of audit impediments, material weaknesses, and areas of non-compliance; validation that deficiencies have been corrected; and development and submission of packages to assert readiness for audit of financial statement lines in accordance with requirements. DFAS Experience is desirable. CPA is preferred and MBA is also a plus. A secret clearance is required.
