Description: Essential duties for this role include: plan and implement as well as execute research and development projects within the Molecular Applications Department, serve as a Molecular Biology and Cancer Research subject matter expert (that is a resource within the company), develop next versions of methods for analysis of epigenetic changes as well as inception and development of novel genotyping and comparative sequence analysis applications to include methods such as ultrasensitive detection of methylation and detection of mutations in circulating tumor DNA, select appropriate model systems and clinical samples for proof-of-concept of the developed methods, execute laboratory research, be responsible for ensuring projects and tasks are completed within the established time frames, determine and develop an approach to solutions exercising judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions, work under limited direction, perform programming and usage of liquid handling equipment, assist in projects requiring collaborations with other research development personnel with others (Molecular Applications Depart
ment, inter-departmental projects, and collaborations with external partners), organize/write and maintain standard research documentation, compile project specific reports, participate and present in research related conferences, publish scientifically relevant data in peer reviewed journals, investigate and make recommendations on new areas for Research and Development. This position will independently and/or collaboratively conceive, initiate, and gain acceptance for new projects, research approaches, and/or scientific direction. The Scientist will identify development opportunities that can lead/contribute to positive revenue streams and participate in the development of patent applications, if applicable. The position has responsibility to plan and execute research and development projects and collaborations in the Molecular Applications Department. You will be applying biochemical and molecular biological methods for the development of novel methods for genotyping, loss-of-heterozygocity (LOH) analysis and elucidation of epigenetic changes, in particular cytosine methylation, and other applications in the field of cancer research. A prerequisite for the position is a profound scientific background in molecular biology, biochemistry, design of experiments (DOE), statistical data analysis and data analysis tools. Expertise in mass spectrometry and a medical background with a focus in cancer research are highly advantageous. Candidates will work on problems of diverse scope where experimental set-up requires DOEs and where analysis of data requires computational capabilities in Excel, Matlab or R. You will be expected to maintain a broad knowledge of and high degree of competence in the field by staying abreast of state-of-the-art principles and theories along with high technical visibility throughout the functional area. The position requires an M.D. and/or Ph.D. in Molecular Biolog
y/Biochemistry, or closely related field, with 3-6 years experience in a research and/or development environment. Postdoctoral may serve as experience. Hands-on experience with advanced molecular biology and biochemistry of nucleic acids and DNA preparation from various sample sources is required. You will be required to travel to, and assist other domestic and international sites. Proven track record in molecular biology research, cancer research and product and/or technology development is needed. You must consistently meet critical deadlines and have ability to work in a team environment, technical proficiency, effective problem solving and critical thinking skills; Microsoft Office proficiency; excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
